INDONESIA’S Ministry of Transportation invites travel or travel business players to continue to move and innovate to jointly raise the transportation and tourism sectors from adversity due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi said that indeed this pandemic has made us slump, but we must take lessons from it to continue to make breakthroughs and meaningful innovations,” said Budi Karya in a press release in Jakarta, Tuesday (6/8).
“The restrictions on passenger capacity and restrictions on the movement of people have had an impact on the tourism sector. This is done as an effort by the government to suppress the spread of COVID-19 in Indonesia. We do restrictions on going home so that the movement is only 10%. We also limit international flights, so that no more chartered travel, “he said.
He explained that this was done to ensure that our country is a country that is serious in dealing with COVID-19. With this sincerity, Indonesia has become one of the countries that is considered to be rising quickly compared to other Southeast Asian countries.
“Now, the results look relatively better, compared to Malaysia and the Philippines, maybe Vietnam and Singapore are better than us. This success must be grateful for,” he said.
Furthermore, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya added that in order to move the tourism sector, there were a number of developments and breakthroughs made by the Ministry of Transportation, including making Kertajati Airport in West Java the embarkation and debarkation of Umrah flights for the West Java and Central Java regions.
“Kertajati will operate normally in January next year, because the toll road will soon be completed. Furthermore, the Ministry of Transportation is also building a number of transportation infrastructures in a number of tourist destinations in Indonesia. Among them are building a new airport in Yogyakarta (YIA); Lombok to welcome the Moto GP event; Labuan Bajo; and Manado,” he noted.
He continued that we are also building in Bali, which is still the center of tourism destinations in Indonesia, by building ports in Sanur and Nusa Penida and planning to build an airport in northern Bali. The development of transportation infrastructure to support tourism is carried out with the APBN or in collaboration with the private sector or non-APBN creative funding.
“The steps taken are our efforts to revive the economy from various sectors. As directed by the President Joko Widodo that on the one hand the pandemic must be resolved, but on the other hand economic activities must also keep moving,” Budi Karya Sumadi concluded. [antaranews/photo special]
