NEW INNOVATIONS ARE NEEDED TO RESTORE THE RI’S TOURISM INDUSTRY

INDONESIA’S Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy assesses those different innovations and according to current trends are needed to restore the tourism industry.

“Indonesia’s tourism potential is very large, with innovation and application of technology, in the future it will grow a digital ecosystem which I hope can unlock all the potential of Indonesian (RI) tourism,” said the Coordinator of Digital Economy Governance II Tourism Ministry, Muhamad Tidar Hetsaputra in an event held virtual, Tuesday (6/15).

According to Tidar, innovation is needed that is ‘out of the box’ in helping tourists to travel safely, comfortably, and with quality. Thus, tourists can spend their money at tourist destinations, which in turn can encourage the economic wheels of the tourism industry players.

Tidar said that tourism is one of the sectors that has the largest multiplier effect in the Indonesian economy. And it is very important that tourism progress is also in line with the improvement of the regional economy, because the tourism industry is related to various sub-sectors ranging from transportation and accommodation to Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

He said a number of ‘out of the box’ innovations have now begun to be developed by many startup companies, one of which is Kemanayo, which is a marketplace that provides a wide selection of comprehensive and personalized travel plans.

This website-based platform and mobile application provides products in the form of various travel plans with travel guides, built-in digital maps, as well as recommendations from travel contributors regarding what are fun and mandatory things to do.

Tidar said digital platforms such as Kemanayo could be used to promote various tourism programs being run by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.

“The more places that enter Kemanayo, the more contributors, I think the better, and we also have a program called tourist village. If for example later there can be contributors who can review tourist villages, of course we are happy to support the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy,” said Tidar.

Meanwhile, Director of Kemanayo, Rizal Azhar, said that his party regularly collaborates with various local businesses and tourist attractions and local culinary delights in various regions.

“Kemanayo always tries to involve as much as possible the role of local communities and MSMEs, and collaborates with the central and regional governments, apart from aiming to increase the potential of local tourism, we hope that it will also open up more opportunities for business actors in promoting their business,” concluded Rizal.
