YOGYAKARTA LOCKDOWN ISSUES, TOURIST ATTRACTIONS TO CLOSE SATURDAY-SUNDAY

THE Governor of Yogyakarta, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, opened the option of a lockdown, if the public did not comply with health protocols as positive cases of COVID-19 skyrocketed in Yogyakarta.

The DIY local government asked all regencies and cities in Yogyakarta to imitate Bantul Regency which closed or closed tourist attractions every Saturday and Sunday. The closure of the tourist attraction is to suppress the transmission of COVID-19 which continues to increase from day to day.

“Yes, I think [other regencies] should follow suit because Parangtritis is a tourist attraction that is very popular with people outside the region,” said the Regional Secretary of DIY Kadarmanta Baskara Aji, Saturday (6/19).

The Bantul Regency Government closes tourist attractions in its territory on weekends or Saturdays and Sundays. The closure of this tourist attraction was carried out as a follow-up to the issuance of the Bantul Regent’s Instruction No.15/Instr/2021 regarding the ninth extension of the implementation of the Micro Implementation of Restrictions on Community Activities (PPKM) in Bantul.

The closure of tourist objects managed by the Bantul Regency Government is only carried out on Saturdays and Sundays with a time span from 15-28 June 2021. Meanwhile, on weekdays, tourist objects are allowed to open by prioritizing the COVID-19 health protocol.

Baskara Aji said in the PPKM Micro rules that tourist attractions that enter the red area must be closed. Meanwhile, tourist attractions in the orange and green areas must be closed periodically and visitors are limited to a maximum of 25% of the total capacity.

The closure and restriction of tourist visits is due to conditions in Yogyakarta currently in a state of emergency. The state of emergency referred to as the spread of the Corona virus has spread and the number of positive cases of COVID-19 is increasing.

According to him, the public must realize that health is a priority. Indeed, in terms of our economic cycle, it is disrupted but in order to control the spread of COVID-19 it is also important, [if] it gets out of control, it can lead to a lockdown, now this is a big problem in DIY. Including will befall friends of the tourism industry.

Previously, the Sultan said that the lockdown was one of the ways when the implementation of Micro Community Activity Restrictions was no longer effective. Sultan Hamengku Buwono X admitted that the lockdown option was taken after considering the condition of the availability of beds in hospitals which were getting full. [bisnis.com/photo special]
