THE MANDALIKA MOTOGP EVENT IS EXPECTED TO RESTORE LOMBOK TOURISM

THE MotoGP event at the Mandalika circuit, Central Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara is expected to help restore tourism in Lombok.

According to the Acting Director of the Lombok Tourism Polytechnic, Herry Rachmad Wijaya, Lombok’s efforts to recover after being hit by the earthquake in 2018, then hit by the COVID-19 pandemic while trying to recover, are expected to be successful, especially since Mandalika is in the spotlight.

“We are trying to find a way, and now Mandalika is a concern, especially since MotoGP will also be held. Hopefully the implementation of Clean, Healthy Safety and Environment (CHSE) can help (recovery),” said Herry in Lombok, Saturday (6/19).

He explained the event for tourism actors to solve various tourism issues, as well as discuss preparations for welcoming the Mandalika MotoGP. With the incessant development of infrastructure, the eyes of the world continue to focus on Mandalika’s preparations as the host of the event.

“We hope that this discussion forum can further support the readiness of Mandalika tourism actors in welcoming the rise of Indonesian tourism, especially ahead of international events, namely World Superbike and MotoGP,” he said.

In early June, progress on the construction of the Mandalika circuit in Central Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara had reached 77%. Work on the Mandalika circuit continues to be accelerated to welcome the international MotoGP activities which are planned to be held in March 2022.

Prior to the implementation of MotoGP, on November 12-14, the World Superbike (WSBK) international motorcycle racing championship will be held in Mandalika, West Nusa Tenggara involving 24 foreign athletes.

WSBK will be the preliminary event for the prestigious MotoGP international championship in March 2022. Later, strict COVID-19 prevention health protocols will be implemented during WSBK, both for athletes, delegates and spectators. [antaranews/photo special]
