SINCE 2018, it turns out that Korea has organized a Korean Medical Tourism Mart (KMTM) in Jakarta and this is part of Korea’s strategy to become a one-stop solution favorite tourist destination. In particular, introducing Korea as a medical tourism destination and beauty procedures for Indonesians.

The six hospitals consist of, Banobagi Plastic Surgery Hospital, Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine, Samsung Medical Center, Wooridul, Yonsei University Severance Hospital, View Plastic Surgery. Each buyer is invited to explore the hospital virtually.

South Korea, is now able to compete with Malaysia as the destination of choice for medical tourists. Cutting-edge technology, medical innovation, competent doctors have made Korea a favorite tourist destination, as well as a popular country to get a one-stop solution, starting from treatment to recreation after treatment can be done.

Based on the latest 2019 data from Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI), the number of Indonesians who came for Korean treatment reached 1.1% of the total 497,464 medical tourists visiting Korea, approximately 5,472 people.

It’s still not very significant, but every year it continues to increase. The number of tourists from Indonesia who come to Korea for cosmetic procedures (can be plastic surgery or just beauty treatments) tends to increase. And the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) Jakarta itself sees that Korea can now be said to be a mecca for beauty.

As we both know, Korea is very popular as a destination for shopping for fashion, beauty products, make-up, and so on, it also supports the increasing interest of Indonesians to do beauty procedures in Korea. Every tourist who will do cosmetic procedures, medical tourists globally there are several things prepared by the Korean government.

Prior to the pandemic, medical tourists who did cosmetic surgery at Korean beauty clinics in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Welfare with a minimum treatment fee of 30,000 KRW will receive a tax refund.

Then the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) can arrange tours around the city by providing transportation, destination routes, tour guides, and so on. It’s just that to access this tour, patients can apply through the medical institution where they are treated.

However, some medical institutions also provide incentives that can be checked at their respective institutions. The regulations regarding tax refunds and tours from KTO are temporarily not valid during the pandemic and it is possible that in the future there may be changes related to that.
