BI & RAJA AMPAT LAUNCHES DIGITAL PAYMENTS FOR 11 TOURIST DESTINATIONS

BANK Indonesia (BI) in collaboration with the Raja Ampat Regency Government launched the implementation of a digital payment application based on the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) for 11 leading tourist destinations in Raja Ampat at the Raja Ampat E-Festival 2021, Monday.

According to the Head of Bank Indonesia Representative for West Papua province, Rut W. Eka Trisilowati in the activity report, she said that there are 11 tourist destinations in Raja Ampat Regency that use QRIS digital transactions, namely the destinations of Yenbuba, Sauwandarek, Kri Island, Priwen, Saukabu, Piaynemo, Mayalibit, Sapokren, Yenbekwan, and Star Lake.

Rut W. Eka explained that the launch of the QRIS application was to encourage the acceleration of the implementation of electronification of financial transactions, which is a change in the payment method from cash to non-cash in West Papua.

“And in order to encourage the establishment of a digital tourism ecosystem and digital economy in West Papua Province as a step to adapt to new life during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Rut W. Eka.

Meanwhile, the Regent of Raja Ampat, Abdul Faris Umlati, who gave a separate statement, expressed his appreciation to Bank Indonesia for presenting the QRIS application to support cashless digital transactions at 11 Raja Ampat tourist destinations.

“Raja Ampat tourism actors must be ready to accept this digital system. Because tourism is adapted to technological developments that lead to digitalization. The QRIS application answers the needs of tourists who are afraid to bring large amounts of money to tourist destinations in the Raja Ampat islands,” he said.

He explained, once again I give my appreciation to Bank Indonesia and hope for full support in educating tourism players for digital transactions, which of course is an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

He added that the local government is very supportive of the program, but of course also takes protection so that technological progress is carried out properly and does not damage the natural ecosystem which is a local tourist attraction. [antaranews]
