HIKING and walking trips have become one of the trending activities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Likewise for tourist destinations in South Korea, especially Jeju Island.
Based on a World Trail Network survey involving respondents in 10 countries, 75% of respondents said new travel activities, such as family and youth recreation during the lockdown period, have increased.
In fact, some routes in North America have seen a 200-500% increase in users. The same thing happened in South Korea. A recent survey conducted by the Korea Tourism Organization, shows trails to be the safest travel destinations. This is at least chosen by 50.4% of respondents.
Walking trips are gaining popularity not only because they offer the opportunity to admire stunning views, but also because people tend to prefer destinations that are quiet and less crowded in the midst of a protracted public health crisis.
Among the interesting destinations is Jeju Island, South Korea. This area in the southern part of the country of ginseng offers the Jeju Olle trail, a 425-kilometer trail that connects the Jeju coast and consists of 26 routes.
If you are wondering which route to choose among the 26 routes, you can refer to the following recommendations made by Jeju Olle hikers who have completed all long-distance trails.
Jeju Olle Foundation said that they conducted a survey of 2,778 pedestrians who had completed all routes over the past year, and route number 7 was chosen as the best route because it was chosen by 35.8% of respondents, followed by route number 10 (32.3%), and the last is lane 18-1 (24.6%).
On route 7 will pass Oedolgae rock, Beophwan Harbor and Gangjeong Village, which starts at the tourist center Jeju Olle and ends at Wolpyeong village. This route offers the most beautiful views of the island’s coast. In spring, canola flowers and wild radishes are almost everywhere along the route. With royal azaleas and camellia blooming in the villages along the way. [sources/photo special]
