According to the President Director of Garuda Indonesia, Irfan Setiaputra in his statement in Jakarta, Friday (7/17) said the trend of growth in the national export sector is an important momentum for efforts to optimize the supporting business lines carried out by the Company in the midst of pressure on business performance due to the COVID-19 pandemic, especially through business. cargo and charters.

“Based on the report from the Central Statistics Agency, the consistent increase in Indonesia’s export traffic grew by 54.46% in June 2021 when compared to the same period last year. I am optimistic that the growth of Indonesia’s export sector will move positively and increase, so that it will have an impact on the company’s business going forward,” he said.

He explained that until May 2021, the Garuda Indonesia Group recorded cargo transportation growth of up to 35% compared to the same period in 2020. This consistency is in line with the performance of the cargo business at the end of last year. The company managed to record air cargo traffic that touched the level of 99% of cargo transportation performance in the pre-pandemic period.

“Garuda Indonesia will continue to optimize fleet utilization for the expansion of its cargo flight network to support direct call activities for leading export commodities and Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia, one of which is through the operation of two passenger freighter fleets that now serve a number of domestic and international cargo flights,” he underlined.

Now, he continued, the cargo business line is one of the main pillars of Garuda Indonesia’s business income amid the decline in passenger transport traffic that has occurred due to the pandemic conditions that have lasted since last year.

In its 2020 financial report, Garuda Indonesia recorded operating revenues of US$1.4 billion, supported by scheduled flight revenues of US$1.2 billion, non-scheduled flight revenues of US$77 million, and other revenue lines of US$214 million.

“Garuda Indonesia also recorded a 35.13% decrease in flight operating expenses to US$1.6 billion compared to last year’s US$2.5 billion. Garuda Indonesia is optimistic that it can be more agile and adaptive in responding to the challenges of the aviation industry in the future,” concluded Irfan. [antaranews/photo special]
