THE INDONESIA’S Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy explained a number of strategies or policies of the Tourism Ministry in restoring the tourism sector and the creative economy after the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, Friday (7/23) said that in accordance with the direction of the President and Vice President, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is moving to restore the tourism and creative economy sectors with a focus on infrastructure development in five super priority destinations, namely Borobudur, Mandalika, Labuan Bajo, Lake Toba, and Likupang.
“The second strategy is to prepare a calendar of events which is currently called the Nusantara Event Calendar (KEN), in a 360-degree setup pattern. Furthermore, the implementation of health and safety aspects in every tourist destination and creative economy center is also tightened and expanded, through Cleanliness, Health, Safety and Environmental Sustainability (CHSE) certification, so that tourists feel safe and comfortable when traveling,” he said.
Sandiaga explained that, lastly, the creative economy sector is expected to be a locomotive for creating jobs. During this pandemic, it turns out that there are several creative economy sub-sectors that are able to grow significantly due to digital transformation.
He also said that Tourism Ministry carried out a 4as work culture, namely hard work, smart work, thorough work, and sincere work. With the application of 3G, namely gercep (fast motion), geber (moving together), and gaspol (working on all potential employment opportunities).
“This needs to be done, because there are 34 million people who depend on this sector for their lives and the impact of the pandemic has also been felt by the community for more than one and a half years,” he noted.
The impact of the pandemic, said Sandiaga, can be seen from data showing foreign tourist arrivals fell by 75%, growth in the number of foreign tourists in January 2021 fell by 89%, foreign exchange fell by almost 80%, while economic growth in 2020 was minus 2%.
He added, meanwhile, the creative economy, which usually grows between five and seven percent, must also contract to minus 2.39%. This is a challenge in itself that we must face.
Therefore, Sandiaga hopes that there will be continuous collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and stakeholders, especially the Indonesian Police. With the spirit of innovation, adaptation, and collaboration, Sandiaga believes that all are able to restore the country’s economy and also the revival of the tourism sector and the creative economy.
“If we carry out this role with heart, it will have a big impact on our economic recovery and of course the welfare of the community. Like the control activities that I saw yesterday on the Instagram of the Governor of NTB, where General Iqbal, the Regional Police Chief, humbly reminded the public to comply with PPKM Level 4 and provide assistance. I see this as an example of leadership that inspires and deserves our example,” he concluded. [traveltext.id]
