AIRLINE baggage is an inseparable part of tourists who often travel by air. For information, baggage is cargo carried by tourists while traveling.
Generally, airlines provide free baggage allowance with a maximum weight of 10 to 20 kilograms, although there are also airlines that provide free baggage weighing more than that. If it is more than the specified weight, the prospective passenger is required to pay an additional fee.

1. Lion Air

This service applies to all scheduled flights on domestic routes that are served round-trip. This service is obtained at the same time as purchasing or ordering tickets online or directly at Lion Air sales offices, partner agents, and others.
If the baggage exceeds 20 kilograms when weighed, the prospective passenger will need to pay an additional fee so that the baggage can be carried. For hand carry, the condition is that each passenger may bring one cabin baggage with a maximum weight of 7 kilograms.
Passengers can also bring one personal item such as a laptop bag, baby gear, reading material, camera, or a female tote bag. Dimensions for cabin baggage are 40 cm x 30 cm x 20 cm.
2. Batik Air
Citing its official website, the airline allows Business Class and Economy Class passengers to carry one cabin baggage and one laptop bag or handbag. For cabin baggage, the dimensions should not exceed 40 cm x 30 cm x 20 cm. It should also not weigh more than 7 kilograms.
There is also a ‘free baggage’ service, where the amount of checked baggage that is collected for free will vary according to the class of travel and the terms and conditions of the ticket. For domestic and international flights for Business Class passengers, baggage weight should not exceed 30 kilograms while Economy Class should not exceed 20 kilograms.
3. Citilink
According to information on its website, currently Citilink is still applying a free baggage promo of a maximum of 20 kilograms per passenger for domestic flights. Meanwhile, international flights and ATR72-600 aircraft only get a maximum free baggage allowance of 10 kilograms per passenger.
Citilink also provides baggage in the cabin with a maximum weight of 7 kilograms. For Airbus A320 aircraft, the dimensions are 56 cm x 36 cm x 23 cm. Meanwhile, for flights using the ATR72-600 aircraft, the luggage dimensions are 41 cm x 34 cm x 17 cm. The maximum weight remains 7 kilograms.
Then for Excess Baggage, citing information from Citilink, the prices offered in the following information vary depending on the flight route. The price listed includes the purchase price at the Check-In counter, and the price of the Pre-Book Baggage package.
For Pre-Book Baggage, passengers can buy it a maximum of 1×24 hours before departure. Furthermore, each passenger can only vote once for each Pre-Book Baggage option. The price of this package includes VAT.
4. Garuda Indonesia
Garuda Indonesia provides checked baggage facilities with a maximum weight of no more than 32 kilograms, according to information on its website. If there are two or more passengers traveling at the same time with the same destination, and check-in at the same place and time, the total baggage from the combined individual baggage can be free of charge.
However, this applies if the total baggage is not more than 32 kilograms. If they exceed the specified total, they will be charged an excess baggage fee. Regarding unchecked baggage placed in the overhead compartment or under the seat, the dimensions are 56 cm x 36 cm x 23 cm. Weight not more than 7 kilograms.
Even so, there are exceptions for Economy Class flights using CRJ or ATR aircraft. The dimensions of the luggage are 41 cm x 34 cm x 17 cm. Weight not more than 7 kilograms. Other free items that can be carried into the cabin without a carry-on baggage tag are a laptop bag or handbag, a thick jacket or blanket, an umbrella or walking stick, a pocket camera or binoculars, and a reasonable amount of reading material.
The airline also applies excess baggage rates for domestic and international flights. Each price is different depending on the flight route. Passengers can also use the Pre-paid Excess Baggage service purchased online through the Garuda Indonesia website or application, or the Garuda Indonesia Sales Office up to 24 hours before departure.
Launching the following page, the airline sells eight Pre-paid Excess Baggage packages, namely 5 kilograms, 10 kilograms, 15 kilograms, 20 kilograms, 25 kilograms, 30 kilograms, 35 kilograms and 40 kilograms. One passenger is only allowed to buy one package, and is valid for domestic or international flights. Prices differ depending on the flight route.
5. AirAsia Indonesia
Since 18 May 2021, AirAsia Indonesia has implemented a new baggage policy for domestic flights. According to official information, the airline provides pre-booked baggage with costs starting from IDR40,000 for 10 kg and IDR50,000 for 15 kg. This service is available when booking tickets.
To add baggage allowance to the ticket, passengers can use the ‘My Purchases’ feature on the airline’s application or its official website at least four hours before departure. Citing the following page, all checked baggage will be charged according to the level of 10 kilograms, 15 kilograms, 20 kilograms, 30 kilograms and 40 kilograms.
The fees offered vary depending on the route and flight period. An example is whether the flight takes more than two hours or not. Meanwhile, two cabin baggage remains free of charge provided that the combined weight is not more than 7 kilograms.
6. Sriwijaya Air
According to an official statement, Sriwijaya Air Group is still implementing Free Baggage Allowance (FBA) for Sriwijaya Air and NAM Air passengers.
“We have started to apply the addition of FBA from January 10, 2020 onwards,” said Sriwijaya Air’s Vice President Corporate Secretary, Adi Willi.
Economy Class passengers on jet planes can enjoy free baggage allowance with a maximum weight of 20 kilograms, while passengers on ATR aircraft have a maximum baggage weight of 10 kilograms. This facility applies to all passengers, both adults and children, and for domestic or international flights.
