ACCELERATE THE REGULATION OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AS LOAN COLLATERAL: SANDIAGA

MINISTER of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno ordered Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry officials to speed up regulations relating to intellectual property rights (IP) which can be used as collateral for loans.

Sandiaga said that the Tourism Ministry was preparing regulations at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and in a matter of weeks he asked Kemenparekraf officials to speed up the regulatory process.

“This is an order! The order is to speed up the process for regulations relating to intellectual property rights that can be used as collateral or loan guarantees,” said Sandiaga Uno at an online seminar in Jakarta, Sunday (29/8).

With such a concept, Sandiaga as the Minister of Tourism can collaborate considering that the regulations already exist, one of which is planning to collaborate with the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Erick Thohir so that Himbara banks can provide credit access to Indonesian intellectual property rights, both those managed by SOEs and those managed by the private sector. open the door to get capital.

“Because of course by having one intellectual property right, the creator of the work will not stop there. We have to develop starting from the animation, the merchandise, and so on. This is a concrete collaboration step and Jakarta is the epicenter for the creative economy,” he noted.

In my opinion, Sandiaga continued that this is our potential, especially Jakarta, we will come up with a breakthrough, at least this will be a legacy from President Joko Widodo in his second administration period so that the creative economy industry and our digital economy ecosystem make a breakthrough in terms of financing, when property rights intellectual property can be access to financing.

He explained that Jakarta would become the main axis of the nation’s creative economy. If I look at the snowball it’s amazing how it can be created once some of our intellectual property gets funded.

Previously, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno prepared a draft implementing regulation for Law (UU) Number 24 of 2019 concerning the Creative Economy which regulates intellectual property (IP)-based financing schemes.

Sandiaga said that once the intellectual property was registered, it could be pledged to banks and could be used as an asset. So, there is no need to borrow collateral, no need to borrow collateral. This rule was made in order to create a marketing system for creative economy products based on intellectual property.

“Financing with this scheme allows creative economy players to obtain business capital. So that access to financing for creative economic players with adequate aspects can be presented by the government and then realized and executed,” he concluded. [antaranews]
