THE TRENDS IN PRIVATE JET BUSINESS LEASES AMIDST THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

THE COVID-19 pandemic has not become a barrier to the continuity of the private jet rental business. Although the market is limited, of course there are still people who are interested in boarding a jet at high speed.

According to Arif Wibowo, Chairman of the Indonesian National Air Carriers Association (INACA) Non-Scheduled Flights, in recent years the private jet business trend has not experienced a truly significant growth.

“However, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, there were some high society or wealthy people who saw private jets as an important necessity. There are indications for certain groups who need transportation for a safer and more private trip,” he said, Monday (9/6).

INACA itself does not have exact data on the number of companies providing private jets. Arif admitted that there are not many companies like that circulating in Indonesia. In general, only people from certain circles can afford to own a private jet.

Arif also considered that private jet companies were not present to heat up the competition in the private jet rental business, but to prioritize meeting the needs of the aircraft, which is a segmented market.

“This business is a very niche market, so the strategy of business actors is more towards product differentiation,” he stated.

In previous news, the Director of PT Indojet Sarana Aviasi, Stefanus Gandi, said that the demand for private jet leases has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. This trend occurs in various private jet companies both domestically and abroad.

He explained that prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, requests for private jet rentals in a month were only 4-6 domestic trips. However, since the pandemic emerged, throughout 2020, the demand for private jet rentals grew to as many as 8-12 domestic trips.

“For now, we can do or serve flights 4 times 5 times a week. This is when it’s crowded, in fact we can serve flights 2 times-3 times a day,” he underlined.

Currently, Indojet Sarana Aviasi has three types of aircraft, namely the Hawker 400 with a capacity of 6 seats for the Jakarta-Bali route, which is valued at US$19,500. Meanwhile, the Hawker 800 aircraft with a capacity of 8 seats on the Jakarta-Bali route is priced at US$26,500. The legacy 600 aircraft with a capacity of 13 seats on the Jakarta-Bali route costs US$37,000.

Stefanus concluded that users of private jet rental services include businessmen or businessmen who go on business trips, families who want to take a vacation and have strong financial capabilities, people who take urgent flights, and people who fly because they have to get treatment from one city to another. other cities, or even abroad.
