PEOPLE who have not been vaccinated are 11 times more likely to die from COVID-19 than those who have been vaccinated, according to United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data released Friday.
According to CDC Director Rochelle Wallensky during press conference, Friday (9/10) said the findings from a review of cases, hospitalizations, and deaths related to COVID-19 in 13 US states were a testament to the “power of COVID-19 vaccination.”
The study looked at data from the past two months when the highly contagious Delta variant became the dominant coronavirus variant in the US. The study also found that, in addition to dramatically increasing protection from COVID-19 deaths, vaccines provide very high protection against infection and hospitalization.
Walensky added people who are not vaccinated are about 4.5 times more likely to be infected with COVID-19 and 10 times more likely to be hospitalized.
“As we have shown through various studies, vaccination is effective. The bottom line is: we have the scientific tools we need to be able to overcome the difficulties of this pandemic,” he said. [antaranews]
