INDONESIA will hold the G20 Presidency which will be held on December 1, 2021 until November 2022. This is the first time Indonesia has hosted the G20 summit, since the association was founded in 1999.
According to Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto at the G20 press conference, Tuesday (9/14) said President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will attend the closing of the G20 Summit in Rome, Italy on October 31, 2021. There [President Jokowi] will officially receive the handover of the G20 baton from the Italian Prime Minister, and December 1 will officially become the G20 Presidency.
“From December 1, 2021 to November 30, 2022, there will be many meetings held. The meeting is referred to as the G20 Sherpa Track. At least 150 meetings will take place with various G20 member countries. There are 150 meetings of several side events, from December 1, 2021-30 November 2022, including working groups at the sherpa, finance, deputies, to summits attended by heads of state and heads of government,” he explained.
On the same occasion, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi, said that the election of Indonesia to hold the G20 Presidency is a big responsibility.
“This is the first time Indonesia has held the Presidency since the G20 was founded. Of course, this is a trust, but at the same time it is also a big responsibility that we will fulfill to the best of our ability. The Indonesian presidency will take the theme ‘Recover Together, Recover Stronger’,” said Minister Retno.
She said regarding the estimated world situation in 2022, where it is estimated that the world will not be completely out of the COVID-19 pandemic from the health aspect.
Even the World Health Organization (WHO) hopes that by the end of 2021, countries in the world can vaccinate up to 40% of their population and achieve 70% by mid-2022.
From the economic aspect, Retno said the world economy fell to minus 3.2% and in 2021 there will be a positive trend of growth which is estimated to reach 6% and is expected to continue in 2022. economy] which will not be evenly distributed.
In terms of geopolitics, it is estimated that the rivalry between the big powers will continue, the deficit of trust will still stand out. As a result, Retno conveyed that against the background of the world situation, as long as Indonesia becomes the G20 Presidency, the main spirit is to recover together.
“To recover together requires a spirit of solidarity, cooperation, collaboration, partnership and inclusivity. More specifically, inclusiveness will be one of the key words in Indonesia’s G20 Presidency, which will not only pay attention to the interests of G20 members, but also developing countries and vulnerable groups, because this is the DNA of Indonesia’s foreign policy,” she concluded.
