JAKARTA FILM WEEK IS A NEW FRESH AIR FOR INDUSTRY PLAYERS IN INDONESIA

THE JAKARTA Film Week film festival is a breath of fresh air for film industry players to return to present spectacles and educational spaces and promote new talents that are beneficial to the film ecosystem.

According to the Acting Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Office, Gumilar Ekalaya, this is also part of a joint effort to rebuild Indonesian cinema and no less important is the purpose of Jakarta, this film is part of efforts to help local producers.

“The festival, which was initiated by the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, has the Jakarta Film Fund program, a story idea competition for short films that provides production, technical, and training support for the five selected proposals,” he said.

He explained that the five selected proposals have a variety of narratives that should be appreciated because they prove the high creativity of local creative industry players.

“Hopefully the work will be in line with our shared expectations so that we can show the public that the works of Indonesian filmmakers are not inferior to international works and we hope that this will become a momentum for the revival of the creative industry in the midst of a pandemic,” said Gumilar.

Registration for Jakarta Film Fund participants closes on September 12, 2021. Until the end of registration, 141 short film proposals have been collected.

Meanwhile, the coordinator of the Jakarta Film Week program, Lisa Siregar, said that we received an extraordinary response from filmmakers in Jakarta who still have a strong dream to continue working in the midst of a pandemic. This is very encouraging, because Jakarta Film Week is not only a momentum for the revival of the film industry, but also encourages the regeneration of filmmakers in Indonesia.

Of the total story idea proposals that have been registered, the finalists have gone through a curation process and 10 selected story idea proposals are entitled to participate in the pitching forum. From the pitching forum, the five best proposals will be re-elected.

The five selected proposals will receive production assistance funds of IDR30 million each. The judges consist of Acting Jakarta Provincial Tourism and Creative Economy Office Gumilar Ekalaya, director and screenwriter Yosep Anggi Noen and cinematographer and representative of the Jakarta Arts Council Agni Ariatama.

Participants whose works are selected will also receive a movielab briefing on directing, script writing and image editing accompanied by mentors who are experienced in their fields.

Several national filmmakers who will participate include screenwriter Irfan Ramly, film production management by Gita Fara, introduction to editing by Andhy Pulung and co-directing Yosep Anggi Noen.
