THE INDONESIA’S Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy revealed that the creative economy is the new wheel of the world economy.
According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, while attending the “Side-Event of High-Level Week: “Resilient and Inclusive Creative Economy for A Thriving Future” on the sidelines of the 76th General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) which carried out online, Friday (9/24) said the creative economy is a new economy.
“During the COVID-19 pandemic, many sub-sectors of the creative economy are developing very rapidly. Some of these include applications, games, television and radio shows, and creative content. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the creative economy sector showed positive developments compared to conventional economic sectors,” he said.
He explained that sub-sectors such as applications, games, television and radio shows, and creative content are growing very rapidly, because many people are staying at home and accessing their smartphones during the pandemic.
To make the creative economy sector a winner after the COVID-19 pandemic, Sandiaga explained that the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has carried out a number of programs based on innovation, adaptation, and collaboration. Namely providing support for creativity exploration through digital training, exclusive mentoring, and sustainable capacity building for creative economy players.
“In addition, we also provide various incentive programs, facilitate licensing, and provide assistance. This is part of our duty as policy makers to create a fair creative economy ecosystem for creative economy actors,” Sandiaga remarked.
Through these steps, Sandiaga continued, it is hoped that the creative economy in the world, especially in Indonesia, can become an economic sector that improves people’s lives and achieves the target of the 2030 sustainable development agenda.
“A nation that holds fast to innovation as the key to the welfare of its people, who can adapt to any circumstances, and believes in collaborative work, will become a developed and resilient nation,” Sandiaga noted.
On the same occasion, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi, added that Indonesia as the initiator of the International Creative Economy Year for Sustainable Development 2021 is aware of the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic will have on the global economy. Thus, this year is a momentum for the nations of the world to provide support to the creative economy in order to become a driver of global economic recovery.
“As policy makers, we must make policies and regulations that encourage innovation and provide space for the creative economy to develop rapidly. Such as providing access to microfinance so that creative economy actors can increase their production and expand their product marketing through digitalization,” Retno concluded.
