KOMINFO MINISTRY TACTICS TO SUPPORT THE RECOVERY OF THE TOURISM SECTOR

THE Ministry of Communication and Information Technology’s (Kominfo) declares there are two tactics to accelerate the recovery of the tourism sector and the creative economy amid the COVID-19 condition.

According to Director General of Information and Public Communication (IKP) of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (Kominfo), Usman Kansong in a virtual coordination meeting of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy 2021, Monday (9/27) said we support the recovery of tourism and the creative economy in two ways. The first is to prepare internet network infrastructure. The second is to support public communication.

“The first method is to strengthen internet network infrastructure in all government administrative areas and residential areas, especially in the 3T (Front, Remote, Disadvantaged) areas,” he said.

Usman Kansong explained furthermore, after providing more even signals, the Ministry of Communications and Informatics also encourages cellular operators to complete the construction of more massive BTS towers so that the existing signals can be more evenly distributed and felt by the wider community.

“With the preparation of the internet infrastructure, tourists or creative economy actors in areas that previously had difficulty with signals could access information more quickly from their devices,” he remarked.

Infrastructure readiness for 4G internet signals is also focused on tourist areas so that they can support smart travelers and make the tourist area a smart destination in accordance with applicable regulations in Indonesia.

Lastly, not only in terms of infrastructure but also digital talents, especially from creative economy business actors, were also honed in the training conducted by the Ministry of Communication and Informatics.

The second way that is a major corridor in the economic recovery of the tourism sector and the creative economy carried out by the Ministry of Communication and Information is to prepare effective and interesting public communications.

“Our number one public communication strategy is to focus on community groups who are still unsure about the readiness of health protocols at tourist attractions,” said Usman.

In the last one month, there has been a significant decrease in COVID-19 cases so that the handling of the pandemic and the economic recovery plan, especially from the tourism sector, have become more mature.

However, not a few people do not really believe in the government’s handling and plans, therefore positive and sustainable public communication is needed so that the tourism sector can get the public’s attention again.

Spreading good news related to programs, government policies, and tourism readiness in Indonesia based on Cleanliness, Health, Safety and Environmental Sustainability (CHSE) and health protocols to the media is one way for Kominfo to gain public trust.

Not to forget, Kominfo continues to provide information to the public to maintain the application of health protocols while on vacation or working in the creative field so that the handling of the pandemic and economic recovery can go well together.

Finally, the Ministry of Communications and Informatics has also participated in eradicating misinformation and hoax news related to the handling of the pandemic in the tourism and creative economy sectors so that public trust can increase. [antaranews]
