GARUDA INDONESIA ENTERS TOURISM HOLDING AFTER RESTRUCTURING

THE MINISTRY of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) said that PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk would only enter the Tourism and Supporting State-Owned Enterprises Holding after completing debt restructuring so as not to burden the holding.

According to the staff of the Minister of SOEs, Arya Sinulingga, in his statement to reporters online in Jakarta, Tuesday (10/5), said that Garuda Indonesia must first resolve its financial problems before it can join a tourism holding and run a business together with other companies.

“For Garuda Indonesia, we’ll just have to wait. It’s still in the process, we can’t enter the holding. Later the holding won’t be good because there’s a problem. Don’t let it be disbanded, so finish it first, Garuda, said Arya.

He considered that if Garuda Indonesia was forced to remain in the tourism holding company with a condition that had debts of up to IDR70 trillion more, it was feared that it would burden the holding despite developing the business together.

“Instead of developing a tourism holding, it will be a burden. Just wait for the Garuda Indonesia process, we’ll see how the restructuring process at Garuda will be,” he remarked.

The Ministry of SOEs established a Tourism and Supporting State-Owned Enterprises Holding, which was chaired by PT Aviasi Wisata Indonesia (Persero) as the holding company.

Members of the Holding for Tourism and Supporting SOEs include PT Angkasa Pura I, PT Angkasa Pura II, PT Hotel Indonesia Natour, PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan and Ratu Boko, and PT Sarinah. [antaranews/photo special]
