TOURISM MINISTRY HOPES BREKSI CLIFFS ARE KNOWN AS WORLD EARTH HERITAGE

THE INDONESIA’S Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy wants the Breksi Cliff tourist destination in Yogyakarta which has been designated as a Geoheritage by the local government to continue to be developed and known as world heritage by maximizing the potential of tourism and the creative economy so that it can have a broad economic impact on the community.

According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, when establishing Dewi Sambi Tourism Village as one of the 50 best tourist villages in the 2021 Indonesian Tourism Village Award (ADWI) event, Friday (10/8) said Breksi Cliff, located in Prambanan District, Sleman Regency, DI Yogyakarta, this is one of the mainstay destinations in the Dewi Sambi Tourism Village.

“We must be grateful that the Breksi Cliff is one of the heritages formed by the eruption that occurred 30 million years ago and is now providing great benefits to the community through tourism. become a world heritage,” said Minister Sandiaga.

Breksi Cliff, he continued is formed by ash from the eruption of Mount Nglanggeran which occurred tens of millions of years ago. The cubes of ash then settle into mud and then harden into rock.

“The rocks then become a source of the community’s economy by being used as a limestone mining area. In 2014, through research conducted, it was found that the rocks in Breksi Cliff are rare types of rock so that the local government has determined that mining is prohibited,” he remarked.

Sandiaga explained that after that, the local community, in this case the tourism awareness group around the area, was “transformed” into a destination that became a favorite of tourists. The cliffs left over from mining are carved with various forms of reliefs and sculptures from wayang stories. Breksi Cliff is also equipped with various facilities and other attractions such as an open stage where various art events and other performances are held.

In this location there are also homestays and camp areas that tourists can enjoy. Even now the Breksi Cliff has also been designated by the local government as an earth heritage or Geoheritage.

With these various potentials, tourist visits to this location which was at an altitude of approximately 397 meters above sea level before the pandemic reached 5,000 and even 10,000 per day. This tour also absorbs more than 400 workers from the surrounding community. In fact, it can even contribute to PAD of almost Rp. 100 million per year for Sambirejo Village.

“This has really become a success story. Where from what was once the poorest village in Sleman Regency but with tourism, it has now become a tourist village with an income of IDR 1 billion per year. And now it has become the 50 best tourist villages. Hopefully this will be an inspiration for our village friend’s other tours to open up business opportunities and create jobs,” Sandiaga noted.

Besides Breksi Cliffs, Dewi Sambi Tourism Village also has Ijo Temple, Barong Temple, Gupolo Statue Site, and Watu Tapak as well. The potential of Dewi Sambi Tourism Village is increasingly complete with cultural arts such as Prabata Siwi Dance, Sintren Dance, Creative Angklung Breksi Park, Jathilan, Ketoprak, and Karawitan.

As for creative economy products, this tourist village has culinary products such as grass jelly made from processed toga plants, vegetable chips, and herbal drinks. While fashion, there are creative actors who produce Batik Jumputan Eco Print.

“Our arrival at this time is also to do more in mapping the potential, opportunities, and challenges. Because the Dewi Sambi Tourism Village is included in the buffer area of the DSP (super priority destination) Borobudur, so it will get a lot of tourist visits,” Sandiaga added.

Sandiaga concluded that we will focus on up-skilling and re-skilling the skills of creative and creative professionals, including digital marketing. We will continue to be present so that tourism can create jobs. [traveltext.id]
