NEW WAY, PEACH AVIATION SELLS FLIGHT TICKETS VIA VENDING MACHINE

PEACH AVIATION, an airline in Japan, uses vending machines to sell flight tickets to secret destinations. The airline put its first vending machines in Osaka in mid-August as part of its marketing, according to The Japan Times.

The vending machine contains capsules in which there is a surprise trip. Since then, the airline has sold more than 3,000 capsules. In fact, sales of capsules in a day can reach 150 capsules. As a result, the airline put a second vending machine in the Shibuya District, Tokyo.

According to Brand Manager in Peach Aviation’s Branding and Communication Department, Shuntaro Kosasa, marketing travel to destinations that travelers can’t choose from may not be successful.

“We thought that it would be okay if we could sell one capsule per day. But the machine suddenly became popular, and we were very surprised,” he told The Japan Times.

He concluded that each capsule costs 5,000 yen or about US$44, equivalent to IDR626,155, and includes a piece of paper with a specific tourist destination. The paper also includes a promo code with points that will be used to purchase tickets at the venue. Most capsules have a code for at least 6,000 points which has a value of 6,000 yen.
