CAMBODIA will again accept foreign tourist visits starting November 30, 2021. Foreign tourists who can enter Cambodia are tourists who have been fully vaccinated. This was conveyed by the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism recently.
Reporting from the Bangkok Post, said the government will reopen a number of popular tourist destinations in Cambodia such as Sihanoukville Beach, Koh Rong Island, and Dara Sakor. The COVID-19 pandemic and travel bans have plunged Cambodia’s tourism industry into a slump.
Revenue from the tourism sector has decreased drastically, which is around 1 billion dollars or equivalent to IDR14.2 trillion in 2020. Whereas in 2019, Cambodia managed to earn around 5 billion dollars or around IDR71 trillion. It was recorded that around 6.6 million foreign tourists visited Cambodia that year.
World Heritage Sites in Cambodia
The opening of a number of popular tourist attractions is the first step of the Cambodian government in increasing the tourism sector again.
The Cambodian government also plans to reopen the northern city of Siem Reap. The area is the gateway to the UNESCO world heritage site Angkor Wat. Reporting from Lonely Planet, the Cambodian government will start opening the area to foreign tourists in January 2022.
Terms of visiting Cambodia Foreign tourists must show proof of a full vaccine certificate to be able to visit Cambodia. Tourists must also undergo a COVID-19 test before departure and get a negative result for a rapid test upon arrival at the airport.
Another requirement is to have health insurance against COVID-19. Before exploring tourist attractions, tourists must stay in the designated area for at least five days and return to undergo medical tests. Cambodia is one of the countries that has succeeded in fighting the corona virus case.
In 2020, Cambodia was recorded to have succeeded in reducing the number of cases with a death rate reaching zero percent. However, in February 2021 positive cases increased dramatically and made Cambodia again close the country’s borders. Most tourism-related activities were forced to close until the end of this year.
Even so, the government’s vaccination campaign was a great success. To date, at least 77% of Cambodia’s population has been fully vaccinated. This number makes Cambodia the most successful country in the population vaccination program. [antaranews/photo special]
