AP I RECORDED 16.7% INCREASE IN PASSENGER TRAFFIC IN NOVEMBER 2021

PT ANGKASA Pura I (AP I) recorded a passenger traffic growth of 16.7% in November 2021 compared to October 2021, from 2,860,812 passenger movements in October to 3,434,671 passenger movements in November 2021. Passenger traffic in November was the highest the highest since January 2021, where the highest passenger traffic previously occurred in June 2021, which was 3,426,376 passenger movements.

Growth also occurred in aircraft traffic in November 2021, which grew 12.1% from 30,730 aircraft movements in October 2021 to 34,479 aircraft movements in November 2021. Likewise, cargo traffic grew by around 1% from 39,028,581 kg in October to 39,048. 058 kg in November 2021.

According to Angkasa Pura I President Director Faik Fahmi, flight traffic at the 15 airports we manage continues to increase after the implementation of Emergency PPKM last July. Throughout November 2021 we managed to serve up to 3.4 million passengers or an increase of up to 16.7% compared to October where we served 2.8 million passengers.

“The increase is one indication that passengers’ confidence is starting to return to air travel in line with the increasingly controlled handling of COVID-19 nationally. In addition, the increase in flight traffic amid the declining number of COVID-19 cases in the country shows that air travel through airports is a safe thing to do and airports are not the cause of the emergence of COVID-19 transmission clusters, “said Faik Fahmi.

He explained that the highest passenger traffic last October was at Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar, which amounted to 739,406 passenger movements, while the second highest passenger traffic was at Juanda Airport Surabaya, which amounted to 668,452 passenger movements, and the third highest passenger traffic was at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali. which amounted to 555,897 passenger movements.

“Meanwhile, the total flight traffic at 15 Angkasa Pura I airports from January to November 2021 is 24,698,835 passenger movements, 293,177 aircraft movements, and 340,981,684 kg of cargo. In November 2021, Angkasa Pura I will serve an average of 111,455 passengers per day at 15 airports,” he said.

Although there was an average daily passenger growth compared to last September which was only 92,284 passengers per day, this increase was still unable to match the average daily traffic in the period prior to the implementation of Emergency PPKM, particularly for the period 18 May-2 July, where the average the average daily passenger traffic reaches 119,845 passengers per day.

“Angkasa Pura I will improve coordination with airport stakeholders and tighten the implementation of health protocols for international flight passengers arriving through Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport and Manado’s Sam Ratulangi Airport to anticipate the entry of COVID-19 variant B.1.1.529 or Omicron which has been confirmed in 23 countries,” Faik Fahmi remarked.

He added that Angkasa Pura I would carry out tightening and supervision at Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport and Manado’s Sam Ratulangi Airport. Coordination was also carried out with Immigration, the regional-level COVID-19 Task Force and the Port Health Office (KKP) as the front line checking international arrivals at Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport and Manado’s Sam Ratulangi Airport.

“Angkasa Pura I is committed to continuing to implement health protocols strictly in accordance with applicable regulations. We hope that our tightening efforts can support the government’s efforts to overcome, prevent and detect the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19,” concluded Faik Fahmi. [sources /special photo]
