MINISTRY DEPLOYS CRISIS TEAM, INDIFICATION OF IMPACT SEMERU ERUPTION

THE MINISTRY of Tourism and Creative Economy has deployed a crisis management team to identify the impact of the eruption of Mount Semeru on the community and the tourism and creative economy ecosystems around the disaster site.

According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, during the Weekly Press Briefing, at the Sapta Pesona Building, Jakarta, Monday (12/06), explained that the team will conduct a quick and precise assessment of the location, damage, loss, and resources. And at the same time making efforts to fulfill basic needs such as the establishment of public kitchens, provision of public (portable) toilets through collaboration with all parties.

“We would like to start this Weekly Press Briefing by conveying our deep concern over the eruption of Mount Semeru that occurred last Saturday (12/04). We ourselves have deployed a crisis management team to identify the impact as well as the facilities and infrastructure that we can provide to our brothers and sisters,” he said.

Sandiaga explained that the Kemenparekraf crisis management team will coordinate donations and assistance through the joint ‘Geber Parekraf Peduli’ movement. As well as collaborating with tourism/creative economy players in assisting handling and traumatic healing.

“I also conveyed the condition of 12 tourist villages around Mount Semeru. Among them are the Bamboo Forest Tourism Village with the attraction of the Bamboo Forest, the Bamboo Forest Natural Baths, and the You and I Flower Garden, which are now covered in volcanic ash, and the damage is still being identified,” he remarked.

Tirtosari View Tourism Village with the attraction of De Kalipo Cafe, suffered damage to volcanic dusty road access, and no casualties. For Gunung Wayang Tourism Village with the attraction of Mount Wayang, the access road is thickened with volcanic ash, and attractions are damaged at the take off and landing points of paragliding.

Pronojiwo Tourism Village, access to the Lumajang-Pronojiwo bridge was cut off and the road conditions were light dusty. Meanwhile, Ranupani Village, Senduro Village, Siti Sundari Village, were monitored to be safe with light dust.

Then, for Sumbermujur tourist village, Penanggal tourist village, Sumberwuluh tourist village, Supit Urang tourist village, Oro Oro Ombo tourist village, there are victims who are still being identified.

“We are continuing to identify this. We need the support of all parties to join hands and work together in accelerating the recovery from the impact of the eruption of Mount Semeru,” he explained.

On this occasion, Sandiaga also conveyed a Circular Letter (CL) regarding Business Activities and Tourism Destinations during the 2021 Christmas Celebration and 2022 New Year. Namely, all business places and tourist destinations are prohibited from holding new year celebration events in indoor or outdoor areas. Open (outdoor) including processions, firecrackers and fireworks. However, restaurants or restaurants, cafes, bars and the like can operate within visitor limits and operating hours.

“So, there will be a special Nataru rule that we put in a Circular, there is no isolation, and we want our activities to focus on tourism and creative activities in accordance with the health protocol. You may travel on condition that you have been fully vaccinated, for those who have not been vaccinated, they are not allowed to travel,” he noted.

Sandiaga also said that the government had increased the quarantine period for foreigners and Indonesian citizens traveling from abroad to 10 days due to the outbreak of the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus. The Tourism Ministry together with other relevant ministries/institutions will continue to monitor the situation in market countries and will evaluate it every week.

“Until now, there has been no policy change for restrictions from 19 countries, only extending the quarantine time to minimize Omicron entering Indonesia. The quarantine for foreign travelers has been extended to 10 days, to support and shop domestically or #DiIndonesiaAja,” he concluded. [traveltext.id]
