THE INDONESIAN Government through the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy together with the Government of South Korea will strengthen bilateral cooperation in the tourism and creative economy sectors in the form of an extension of the Creative Economy Memorandum of understanding (MoU) and the establishment of a Tourism MoU.
This was stated by the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, during an audience with the South Korean Ambassador to Indonesia, Park Taesung, in the 16th Floor Meeting Room, Sapta Pesona Building, Jakarta, Wednesday (12/08).
Sandiaga said that South Korea is a country that has a very large growth in the tourism sector and its creative economy. Many popular tourist destinations in South Korea are wrapped in a thick culture.
Moreover, South Korea’s creative industry is in the limelight thanks to Hallyu, Korean wave (K-wave) Hallyu refers to the popularity and success of South Korean content worldwide, with K-pop and South Korean dramas, such as BTS, Blackpink, Crush Landing on You, and much more.
“Creative products like BTS, Parasite, it doesn’t just happen overnight. The Korean side has done very careful planning. Moreover, it is not only the private sector that is developing but also the ecosystem. For that I hope we can immediately strengthen cooperation with South Korea in the legal umbrella of signing the MoU, and after that we can detail the action plans that we will take and also share best practices carried out by South Korea,” said Sandiaga.
The South Korean Ambassador to Indonesia, Park Taesung, welcomed the cooperation between the two countries. According to him, Indonesia has many similarities with South Korea. Both countries share a society that puts family first, always shows hospitality, cares for others, has the principle of gotong royong in terms of working together, and also always respects diversity and harmonization.
“I believe that the two countries can synergize by combining best practices from South Korea to introduce Korean culture through Hallyu. With its cultural elements, Indonesia can also introduce its culture in the form of Indonesia Waves,” he stated.
Furthermore, he said this idea would be submitted to the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to help follow up on this agreement.
“I am sure that the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will strongly agree and will also be actively involved in the process of signing this MoU,” Park Taesung concluded. [traveltext.id]
