THE CENTRAL Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that foreign tourist arrivals rose 3.06% to 153,200 visits in November 2021 when compared to October 2021 which was 151,000 visits.
“Although there is an increase, it is very thin and the graph is very sloping. When compared to November 2020, the graphs coincide, meaning that there has been no significant increase compared to last year,” said Head of BPS Margo Yuwono during a virtual press conference, Monday (1/03).
Margo said that the increase in foreign tourist visits in November 2021 also occurred when compared to November 2020, which was 6.04%. The number of foreign tourist visits in November 2021 consisted of foreign tourists visiting by air transportation modes as many as 19.91 thousand visits, sea transportation modes as many as 33.63 thousand visits, and land transportation modes as many as 99.66 thousand visits.
Thus, the number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia from January to November 2021 reached 1.48 million visits, where the figure still experienced a drastic decrease of 61.82% when compared to the number of foreign tourist visits in the same period in 2020.
The number of foreign tourist visits from January to November 2021 consisted of foreign tourists who visited by air transportation modes as many as 119.46 thousand visits, sea transportation modes as many as 407.86 thousand visits, and land transportation modes as many as 957.57 thousand visits.
Margo conveyed that the tourism sector was still experiencing severe challenges to reach normal numbers before the COVID-19 pandemic hit Indonesia. A complete health treatment is needed to be able to restore the tourism sector to flourish in Indonesia.
“Indeed, the challenge is quite heavy, because to reach the figure as before it requires complete health care, so that global trust in the handling of COVID-19 in Indonesia can be good and can encourage tourism in Indonesia to increase,” concluded Margo. [antaranews]
