THE INDONESIAN government has finally reduced the duration of the quarantine period for citizens returning from overseas travel, including those returning from countries with high Omicron cases.
Previously, a 14-day quarantine period was applied to Indonesian citizens returning from countries with high Omicron cases. Meanwhile, a 10-day quarantine is in place for foreign travelers who come from other countries.
“Earlier, it was decided that the 14-day quarantine will be 10 days, and the 10-day quarantine will be 7 days,” said Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan at a press conference on the results of a limited online the implementation of restrictions on community activities (PPKM) evaluation meeting in Jakarta, Monday (1/03).
The Java Bali PPKM coordinator also emphasized that the government will not give discretion or dispensation for those who come from abroad. The government will only refer to the rules in the Instruction of the Minister of Home Affairs.
Luhut also reminded the public to remain disciplined on health protocols. The key, we see Omicron thrive in any world it is a matter of discipline. Discipline of wearing masks, vaccine issues, hand washing discipline and so on. So, the key word is discipline.
As of Sunday (1/02), the total number of Omicron cases in Indonesia reached 138 cases, consisting of 135 imported cases and three local transmission cases. Although it continues to increase, Luhut who is also the Deputy Chair of the Committee for Handling COVID-19 and National Economic Recovery (KPC PEN) said Indonesia’s readiness to face Omicron is now much better.
This readiness includes, among others, the vaccinations that continue to be intensified, the supply of medicines to the capacity of hospitals and health workers.
“We have prepared everything needed for that. So, we are much more prepared. I repeat, much more prepared than what happened in June last year. Also, our admission to quarantine is now much more prepared,” concluded Luhut. [antaranews]
