RIO DE JANEIRO & SAO PAULO WILL POSTPONE THE CARNIVAL PARADE UNTIL NEXT APRIL

RIO DE JANEIRO and Sao Paulo previously announced that they were postponing the colorful carnival parade to the end of April due to an increase in COVID-19 cases amid the outbreak of the omicron variant.

Both cities have already canceled street carnival parties, but are still considering a samba school parade in late February. They will hold an event at the end of April.

“Unfortunately, we were not able to hold the carnival as planned,” Rio Health Secretary Daniel Soranz told reporters.

Brazil is currently experiencing a peak in new cases of COVID-19, with an average of nearly 120,000 daily cases in the past seven days, due to the sheer number of Omicron infections. [antaranews/photo special]
