THE INDONESIA’S Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, said that the Indonesian people are currently more diligent in wearing masks when compared to citizens in Europe and the United States.
Budi said this when explaining how Indonesia could reduce the rate of increase in Covid-19 cases caused by the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2.
“Indonesia uses masks quite diligently, you know. Compared to others, Indonesia is quite diligent, compared to the United States and Europe,” Budi said as quoted from kompasTV, Thursday (1/27).
He also revealed the realization of Indonesia’s vaccination. He said Indonesia’s vaccination conditions were also quite good. Based on data from the Ministry of Health, currently the realization of the first dose of vaccination in Indonesia has reached 183,423,867 doses or 88.07% of the total target of 208,265,720. The realization of the second dose of vaccination was 126,871,999 doses or 60.92%.
Budi said, with these two indicators, he hopes that at the peak of transmission of the Omicron variant in Indonesia, the number will not be too high.
“Vaccination is also good. Yes, hopefully it’s not too high. But it’s better to be ready so that doctors smile,” he said.
Budi reflected on the cases of transmission of the Omicron variant in several other countries which had already reached the peak of adding daily cases.
According to him, based on experience in countries such as South Africa, England, and several states in the United States, from the initial detection of cases to the peak of the number of additional cases, the Omicron variant takes 35-65 days.
“So, if Indonesia was hit for the first time in mid-December, so my calculations would be the end of February and the beginning of March,” concluded Budi. [sources/photo special]
