Starting from nature to buildings, let’s check some tourist recommendations from Indonesia that are recognized by UNESCO, so what’s going on?

Subak Cultural Landscape
Subak is a traditional rice field area in Bali whose management is based on the Tri Hita Karana philosophy. This philosophy consists of three aspects that must be followed if you want to live happily, namely: (1). Parahyangan (Human harmonious relationship with God), (2). Pawongan (Harmonious relationship between humans and others), (3). Palemahan (The harmonious relationship between humans and nature).

These three aspects are then reflected by the Balinese people in their agricultural activities which are known to highly uphold the worship of gods, work together with humans and pay attention to environmental sustainability. The high cultural value in the subak system is what made UNESCO in 2012 set the Subak Cultural Landscape as a world cultural heritage site.

The area of this site reaches 20 thousand hectares and is located in five regencies, namely Badung, Buleleng, Bangli, Gianyar and Tabanan. The expanse of green rice terraces combined with the cool air will definitely make you feel at home spending time in one of the subak destinations. One of the most popular and visited subaks is in Jatiluwih, Tabanan.

Ombilin Coal Mine
Being the first and oldest mining site in Indonesia, the Ombilin Coal Mine area in Sawahlunto, West Sumatra is certainly full of historical value. This mine began operating in 1891, where it was through this activity that the people of Sawahlunto became familiar with the technology and science of coal mining. The city of Sawahlunto which was once just a remote area was transformed into an industrial area which was quite busy at the time.

In 2019, the Ombilin Coal Mine area was designated as a UNESCO world cultural heritage. Here, you can increase your knowledge by walking around the mining area, riding the Mak Itam train and seeing the remnants of ancient mining activities. Uniquely, this site is also the only underground mine in Indonesia.

Borobudur Temple
As for this historical site, it must be very familiar to your ears, right, Beauties? The temple, which is a place of worship for Buddhists, was built around 800-AD, precisely during the reign of the Syailendra dynasty of the Ancient Mataram Kingdom.

One of its uniqueness lies in the architecture of the temple building which reflects the image of Buddhism in achieving nirvana. The temple building consists of 2,772 reliefs with 504 Buddha statues and 72 stupas. Therefore, Borobudur was crowned the largest Buddhist monument in the world.

These various interesting facts behind the Borobudur Temple finally prompted UNESCO to designate this temple as a world cultural heritage in 1991. To see the grandeur of the building, you can just come to the Borobudur Temple Complex on Jalan Badrawati, Magelang, Central Java.

Prambanan Temple
The Prambanan Temple site is a relic of Hindus in Indonesia. The main building in the Prambanan complex is the Shiva Temple which rises 47 meters high. Prambanan Temple is also touted as the most beautiful Hindu temple in the world, you know!
