A NUMBER of major airlines, employers and travel agency groups, on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, urged the White House to end mandatory coronavirus tests on travelers who intend to fly internationally.
The American Chamber of Commerce, Airlines for America, the International Air Transport association, the Aerospace Industries association and the United States travel agency association, and several other groups, issued a letter calling on White House COVID-19 task force coordinator Jeff Zients to make changes to the rules.
“A number of surveys of airline passengers indicate that testing for the coronavirus before traveling has been a major factor in people’s decision to refrain from international travel,” the letter to the White House reads.
The White House declined to comment. Airlines for America, which represents American Airlines, Delta Air Lines Inc, United Airlines Holdings and other airlines, said last weekend international air travel had fallen by 38% compared to 2019.
In December 2021, President Joe Biden’s Administration tightened rules for those arriving in America via international air travel. Travelers must present valid proof of negative COVID-19 the day before travel. [sources/photo special]
