SOEKARNO-HATTA Airport was included in the 10 busiest airports in the world in January 2022. This was determined by the Official Airline Guide (OAG), which is a global flight information provider based in the UK, which recorded a passenger seat capacity of both domestic and international of 2.82 million seats flight.
Soekarno Hatta Airport’s entry as the busiest airport is due to Indonesia’s large domestic market. The Jakarta-Denpasar and Jakarta-Makassar flight routes are also included in the list of the 10 busiest domestic routes in the world in January 2022 based on flight seat capacity.
Even OAG said that in January 2022, Soekarno Hatta Airport’s ranking was better than the period before the pandemic, namely in January 2019 at 15th.
Besides Soekarno Hatta, other airports that have a large domestic market on this list are airports in Dallas and Denver, United States, as well as airports in Delhi, India. Meanwhile, Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta, USA, is ranked 1st with a total capacity of 4.39 million flight seats.
According to VP of Corporate Communications AP II, Hufron Kurniadi, the national aviation sector has a very important role, especially in Indonesia, which is an archipelagic country. Meanwhile, the implementation of health protocols according to global best practices also supports Soekarno Hatta Airport in the list of the busiest airports in the world.
“AP II airports together with stakeholders are committed to maintaining air connectivity by complying with all applicable health regulations and protocols in the midst of a pandemic, so that the national aviation sector can contribute optimally to the handling of the pandemic and national economic recovery,” said Hufron in a statement on Wednesday, (2/09).
Meanwhile, Executive General Manager of the Main Branch Office of Soekarno-Hatta Airport (KCU BSH) Agus Haryadi said that currently passengers at Soekarno-Hatta Airport are dominated by passengers on domestic routes.
“Every day, around 95% of airplane passengers at Soekarno-Hatta Airport are passengers on domestic routes. International flights are still limited. This indicates that Soekarno-Hatta Airport as an anchor airport for domestic flights can maintain air connectivity in Indonesia in the midst of the pandemic,” Agus concluded. [sources/photo special]
