THE MOTOGP event in Mandalika is now officially using the name Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia as an effort to encourage national economic growth through international motorcycle sports competitions to Indonesia.
Pertamina President Director Nicke Widyawati hopes that the competition can help the national economic recovery, increase tourism potential, advance the motor racing sport ecosystem, as well as become a momentum for Indonesia’s pride and enthusiasm to rise from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“By holding the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia, we can strengthen Indonesia’s nation branding as a resilient country in the midst of the global pandemic crisis,” he said in a statement in Jakarta, Wednesday (2/09).
Nicke said that to realize this step, Pertamina then signed a cooperation agreement with Dorna Sports as the holder of commercial rights for the MotoGP motorcycle sport.
The signing activity was carried out directly by Nicke and Managing Director of Dorna Sports Carlos Ezpeleta online which was witnessed by the Minister of SOEs Erick Thohir in Jakarta, today.
The international motorsport event will start with pre-season activities on 11-13 February 2022 and the MotoGP season on 18-20 March 2022.
Nicke wants the synergy of state-owned companies in the implementation of MotoGP to be able to provide a multiplier effect, as well as opportunities for broad global market penetration for Pertamina, SOE products and Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) located in Mandalika and in other areas.
Managing Director of Dorna Sport Carloz Ezpeleta said he was happy for Pertamina’s involvement as the main supporter of the grand prix in Indonesia.
According to him, this collaboration will further strengthen the presence of Pertamina and Indonesia in the sport, in addition to being the main supporter of the Mandalika Circuit and previously also supporting the SAG Pertamina Mandalika team that competed in the Moto2 World Championship.
“We are proud to announce a cooperation agreement for the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia – ensuring that Pertamina, Indonesia, Lombok Island are at the forefront – to become the center of attention on the international stage,” said Carlos.
Meanwhile State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir said that President Joko Widodo from the beginning encouraged the organization of international events in Indonesia, such as the Asian Games, World Superbike, to MotoGP.
He appreciated the seriousness of the central government, regional governments, and the Indonesia Tourism Development Cooperation (ITDC) who continue to struggle to make the sport a success.
“High appreciation to Pertamina, which we are now pushing as a global company. We have a target for Pertamina to have a very large valuation of 100 billion US dollars,” said Erick.
Pertamina will present the excitement of the MotoGP race event for Jakarta residents through the Mandalika GP Hub at the Epicentrum Walk oval atrium, Kuningan.
The event will be held from February 10 to March 30, 2022 with exciting services and content, including ticket sales, merchandise, exciting games to Lombok cultural exhibitions. In addition, Pertamina also makes it easy for automotive lovers to get tickets to watch the race through the MyPertamina application. [antaranews]
