VIETNAM will lift restrictions on international flights from February 15, 2022, ending COVID-19 restrictions on international passenger flights.
As reported by Channel NewsAsia, Sunday, February 13, 2022, Vietnam imposed strict border controls at the start of the pandemic to prevent COVID-19. This effort was successful in early prevention. However, the policy has also dealt a blow to the burgeoning tourism sector. The tourism sector accounts for approximately 10% of gross domestic product (GDP).
“Vietnam will lift restrictions on international flights from February 15. Flight frequency will be returned to pre-pandemic levels,” Dinh Viet Son, deputy director of Vietnam’s Civil Aviation Administration, was quoted as saying by the Tuoi Tre daily.
Son said Vietnam had informed its partners about the new policy, and only China had not agreed to resume commercial flights with Vietnam.
Vietnam has begun to gradually resume international flights to 15 markets starting earlier this year while easing quarantine requirements. Vaccinated passengers now only need three days of self-isolation.
The Southeast Asian nation has recorded nearly 2.5 million cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began, and about 39,000 deaths. Data shows nearly 98% of Vietnam’s 98 million people have received at least two doses of the vaccine. [sources/photo special]
