MANADO’S SAM RATULANGI AIRPORT DEVELOPMENT PROGRESS REACHES 99%

PT ANGKASA Pura (AP) I ensured that the progress of the Sam Ratulangi Manad Airport development project until February 20, 2022 reached 99.20%. The development is targeted for completion by the end of February 2022.

“The development of Manado’s Sam Ratulangi Airport has the aim of supporting the Super Priority Destination and the Likupang Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in North Sulawesi Province in a sustainable manner,” said AP I President Director Faik Fahmi in a written statement, Monday (2/21).

He explained that the development of Sam Ratulangi Airport focuses on the expansion and beautification of the existing terminal. Likewise with the expansion of the new terminal building and the addition of airport infrastructure facilities.

The expansion of the terminal includes a check-in area, boarding lounge, make-up area (for handling passenger baggage), additional toilet units, as well as beautification of the boarding lounge, check-in, and lobby areas. Meanwhile, the expansion of the new terminal is carried out through the creation of immigration, quarantine, customs and boarding lounges for domestic and international departures and arrivals.

“The development of Manado’s Sam Ratulangi Airport also increases the passenger terminal area from only 26,481 square meters with a capacity of 2.6 million passengers per year to 57,296 square meters or can accommodate up to 5.7 million passengers per year,” Faik explained.

In terms of facilities, Manado’s Sam Ratulangi Airport is equipped with modern facilities starting from the addition of an aviobridge which was originally four units to six units. Check-in counter from 30-unit to 45-unit.

Meanwhile, in terms of infrastructure, expansion of airport road access, toll gates, sewage treatment plants, expansion of water houses, and addition of retention ponds and rain water tanks will be carried out. Likewise, the expansion of the parking area, which originally could accommodate 350 four-wheeled vehicles, will later be able to accommodate up to 650 vehicles and two-wheeled vehicles which previously could accommodate 734 units to 760 units.

Manado’s Sam Ratulangi Airport is located in a strategic location and connects to various favorite tourist destinations of domestic tourists. Likewise with foreign countries such as Bunaken, Linow Lake, Ratahan Telu Waterfall, Woloan Village, and Likupang Beach.

“Angkasa Pura I is committed to supporting sustainable tourism development in North Sulawesi Province by providing a tourism promotion area in the form of a stage for regional dance and music performances in the waiting room,” said Faik.

In 2021, Manado’s Sam Ratulangi Airport will serve 12,065 aircraft movements. A total of 11,672 of them are domestic flights and 393 international flights.

In that year, Manado’s Sam Ratulangi Airport also served 925,017 passenger movements consisting of 906,916 domestic passengers and 18,101 international passengers. For cargo in 2021, Manado’s Sam Ratulangi Airport will serve 16,577 tons of cargo consisting of 16,065 tons of domestic cargo and 511 tons of international cargo. [antaranews/photo special]
