STARTING APRIL 1, TOURISTS TO MALAYSIA MUST HAVE A US$20,000 INSURANCE

THE MALAYSIAN government requires foreign travellers who hold a social visit pass who enter the country to have COVID-19 treatment and travel insurance with a minimum dependent value of US$20,000 (approximately IDR287,170,000) starting April 1, 2022.

According to Malaysian Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin on Thursday (3/31) said his ministry had announced the protocol that PPLN needed to comply with in accordance with the plan to reopen the country’s borders on April 1, 2022.

“One of the rules in the protocol is the obligation of foreign travellers who before leaving for Malaysia to report his departure through the MySejahtera application and have a COVID-19 and travel insurance policy,” said Khairy in Kuala Lumpur.

He explained that the obligation was imposed on foreign nationals who entered Malaysia using a short-term social visit pass regardless of their Covid-19 vaccination status. The insurance protection, includes coverage for quarantine costs, treatment and hospitalization in hospitals, if they contract COVID-19 while in Malaysia.

“However, this obligation is excluded for immigrants, permanent residents, and long-term pass holders who are Malaysian or Singaporean citizens who use air, land and sea routes,” Khairy concluded. [sources/photo special]
