THE INDONESIA’S Ministry of Tourism and Economy through the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno met the Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Penny Williams to discuss a number of issues related to efforts to restore the tourism sector and the creative economy of the two countries after the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the meeting held at the Sapta Pesona Building, Central Jakarta, Monday (4/04), Sandiaga revealed that the tourism and creative economy sectors in Indonesia are ready to accommodate foreign tourist visits, especially from Australia.
“Along with the gradual reopening of Indonesia’s borders with the international community, we are ready to welcome the arrival of foreign tourists, especially from Australia to Bali and other destinations in Indonesia,” said Sandiaga.
Sandiaga said Indonesia had started to open international borders since March 8, 2022 and Australia was one of 42 countries on the list of recipients of the visa on arrival policy.
“In addition, we also need to explain our policies towards the international community, especially Australia, that this policy is a form of our concern for the safety and health of tourists,” he said.
Sandiaga also explained that until now Indonesia continues to try to control the spread of COVID-19. So, foreign tourists can feel safe and confident to visit Indonesia.
“So, with the more controlled pandemic in Indonesia, international tourists will be more confident to visit Indonesia,” Sandiaga stated.
This was welcomed by Penny Williams who said that the Australian public was looking forward to being able to visit Indonesia again, especially Bali.
“Besides that, in Australia there are also many Indonesian citizens, both those who are currently studying at universities in our country or who are working. So that the reopening of the Indonesian-Australian border is a breath of fresh air for Indonesian citizens living in Australia,” she remarked.
Penny revealed her duties as Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, one of whose missions is to strengthen cooperation between her country and Indonesia in various fields. Especially in the economic sector.
