DUBAI EXPO 2020 SYMBOLIZED AS UNITY AND HOPE, WHERE THE WORLD AS ONE

THE 2020 Dubai Expo hosted by the UAE was a beacon of unity and hope, where the world was once again reminded of the importance of solidarity and international cooperation amid common challenges.

The statement was made by secretary general of Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), Dimitri Kerkentzes, during an interview with the Emirates News Agency (WAM. The Dubai Expo was held from October 2021 to March 2022.

“After a period of being apart, Expo 2020 Dubai was the perfect opportunity for the 192 participating countries to meet and connect, join in search of solutions to global challenges, and engage in dialogue for a better tomorrow,” Kerkentzes remarked.

He said he believed that the expo was the ideal platform that brought countries together to reflect and discuss the next steps forward.

“The legacy of Expo 2020 Dubai will be measured in years and even decades, with its lasting impact extending into a wide array of intangible areas such as education, social progress, sustainable thinking, and international cooperation,” he said.

He said he also believed that the expo had highlighted the strong role played by the youth in the UAE. “We have seen a whole new level of youth engagement in addressing the expo theme and pushing for new solutions adapted to future generations,” he added.

He also underlined how the 2020 Dubai Expo showed that cooperation, which is based on solidarity, is not only possible but essential for tackling the many challenges faced by the modern world, including in relation to environmental protection, biodiversity, education, and health.

“The UAE has put tremendous efforts into delivering a World Expo that gathers the best and brightest ideas from around the world and will have a transformational impact. I am certain that this momentum will play a lasting role in rebalancing the economy towards fairer, more sustainable, and more inclusive growth,” he remarked. [antaranews]
