MINISTRY-HUAWEI AGREE TO PARTNER IN UTILIZING IT FOR TOURISM DEVELOPMENT

THE MINISTRY of Tourism and Creative Economy signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with PT. Huawei Tech Investment related to the use of information technology in the development of tourism and the creative economy.

The signing of the MoU was carried out by the Sesmenparekraf/Sestama, Ni Wayan Giri Adnyani with the Vice President of Huawei Indonesia, Ken Qi and witnessed by the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, at the St Regis Hotel, Nusa Dua, Bali, Friday (4/22).

In his remarks, Sandiaga Uno said that this collaboration is a joint effort to welcome the new economic order after the COVID-19 pandemic and can strengthen support for the recovery and growth of the tourism industry and creative economy that is competitive, superior, and resilient, with sustainable principles. So that it opens up job opportunities and business opportunities in Indonesia again.

“Today we are very happy because after some time of discussion we finally reached an agreement to work together between Huawei as an institution to partner in various fields in an effort to revive the tourism sector economy and the creative economy, and to improve connectivity and as part of entering our economic order, namely a digital-based order,” said Sandiaga.

He explained that to support the development of digital products in the tourism and creative economy sectors, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has carried out various activities, namely Baparekraf Developer Day (BDD), Baparekraf Digital Talent (BDT), dan Baparekraf untuk Startup (Bekup).

BDD is carried out to strengthen the digital ecosystem, bridging local developers with the latest technology platforms to develop digital products, especially applications, games, and the web as well as the Internet of Things (IoT).

“The cooperation we are exploring is the BDT, Bekup, BDD programs so that we can connect this startup with SPARK, which is a program from Huawei,” he said.

Sandiaga said Huawei has 200 thousand workers and 2 thousand are in Indonesia. Huawei has an important role to play in connecting tourism destinations and creative economy centers with digital services.

“As it is known that the digital economy will be the support of the economy and the creative economy will be the locomotive, we hope that this collaboration can directly and concretely produce several breakthroughs for economic revival and opening up employment opportunities in the tourism and creative economy sectors,” he concluded.
