THAILAND ABOLISHES COVID-19 TEST FOR VACCINATED FOREIGN TOURISTS

THE THAI government will stop the Test and Go process for foreign tourists who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 at the end of this month. From 1 May 2022, tourists are only advised to carry out self-antigen tests.

Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-Cha said the abolition of Test and Go was to promote the country’s tourism. Tourism is recovering and antigen testing will be more convenient and faster for visitors.

Reporting from the Bangkok Post, recently, Prayut said many countries were loosening travel rules for foreign tourists. Similarly, Thailand is very dependent on the tourism sector to support the economy.

Meanwhile, CCSA spokesman Taweesilp Visanuyothin said that from 1 May 2022 there will be no Test & Go entry scheme. The government is preparing different measures for vaccinated and unvaccinated foreign arrivals arriving by plane.

Tourists will do their own antigen test while in Thailand. If it turns out to be positive for Covid-19, you can join the insurance program or can do the treatment yourself.

Foreign tourists who are not vaccinated are required to show proof of a negative RT-PCR test no later than 72 hours before arriving in Thailand. They will be quarantined for five days and must undergo a PCR test again on the 4th or 5th day. They will also be advised to do their own antigen test during their stay.

High-risk visitors will be quarantined for five days. The minimum COVID-19 insurance coverage for all foreign entrants is US$10,000. Mandatory testing under the Test & Go entry scheme could be revoked as statistics show a very low infection rate among foreign tourists, only 0.46% going through Test & Go this month, said Dr Taweesilp.

For arrivals by land, visitors intending to stay no longer than two days must be fully vaccinated and pass an antigen test. Otherwise, they cannot enter Thailand. [antaranews/photo special]
