A TOTAL of 12 heads of state and 56 ministers are expected to attend the World Water Forum (WWF) Meeting in Bali in 2024.
According to the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono in the “National Stakeholders Forum: 10th World Water Forum First Announcement” in Jakarta, Friday (7/08) said the World Water Forum is the largest international meeting activity in the field of water that discusses resource management. water power involves a variety of stakeholders. The forum was initiated by the World Water Council (WWC) and has been held every three years since 1997.
“Indonesia is the first Southeast Asian country to host the World Water Forum. Indonesia will take many benefits from WWF in Bali, such as knowledge from various discussions on water resource management in the midst of the threat of the climate crisis. This knowledge of water management is expected to strengthen Indonesia’s mitigation efforts against natural disasters, such as flash floods and landslides,” he said.
In addition, he continued, Indonesia will also benefit from various discussions on the management of water resources to increase food production in order to face the potential global food crisis.
“Mr. President (Joko Widodo’s) message is that we take all knowledge about water. This is the biggest festival in water management. So we take as many benefits as possible regarding water resource management,” said the Minister of PUPR.
“This can have a big economic impact and bring benefits to the discussion of water science because we have 5,600 rivers, 7 million hectares of irrigation, we also have 300 dams, 3 million swamps that have the potential to be developed for food,” said Minister Basuki.
In addition to impacts related to water management, the Minister of PUPR also believes that the arrival of 100 thousand participants in the World Water Forum will have a multiplier effect on the economy, especially for the tourism and MSME sectors in Bali and its surroundings.
“Therefore, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is present. There will be 100 thousand delegates who will come without promotion,” he noted.
