JAPANESE AIRLINE ANA COMPLETES ORDER OF 20 BOEING 737 MAX JETS

JAPANESE airline ANA Holdings Inc said on Monday (July 11) it had completed an order for 20 Boeing 737 MAX jets. Orders were first announced in January 2019 which also include options for 10 narrow body types.

The airline also said it would switch two of its 20 777-9 passenger aircraft to the 777-8F cargo model as part of efforts to expand its cargo business. The 737 MAX aircraft, intended to replace the older 737-800 jets on domestic routes, will be delivered from April 2025, the airline said in a statement.

ANA does not provide an agreement value. An order for 20 737 MAX 8 planes would be worth US$2.4 billion based on Boeing’s latest price list available on its website, but airlines typically receive deep discounts on orders.

ANA had placed its initial non-binding order for the plane two months before the 737 MAX was grounded globally following a second deadly crash.

The Japanese carrier noted that 46 airlines worldwide have restarted 737 MAX flights since the United States lifted a no-fly order in November 2020 and the model has been operating smoothly. [sources/photo special]
