SECRETARY General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Lim Jock Hoi said digitalization is one of the main principles for a comprehensive recovery framework in the ASEAN region.
“So, one of the main principles for ASEAN’s comprehensive recovery framework is digitization. Digitalization is an important tool for the community, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said at the 1st ASEAN Youth Dialogue Press Conference which was monitored online by ANTARA, Jakarta, Tuesday. (7/26).
He said digitalization is an important tool for the community, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Digitization makes it easier for teachers to conduct distance learning during the pandemic and makes it easier for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to market their products.
He reminded that digitalization plays an important role for future economic development and growth, which requires young people to master technology in the midst of the industrial revolution 4.0 era.
Lim Jock Hoi said that in 2025 the value of gross domestic product (GDP) in ASEAN is estimated to reach around US$400 billion (around IDR5.99 quadrillion).
However, he said there are still many gaps between people living in rural areas and those living in urban areas. To bridge the gap, we need to provide access to digital technology for the community.
He considered that a number of governments as well as regional organizations such as ASEAN have a responsibility to seek solutions to narrow the gap in development.
The government, he reminded, needs to provide access to digital technology for the community so that everyone gets economic benefits from using the technology. [antaranews/photo special]
