With the theme “Collaboration for Awakening”, this inaugural event held on 15-16 August 2022 at the Jakarta Convention Center. In addition, this event can also be watched online via the YouTube platform.

According to Daswar Marpaung, President Director of PT Dyamall Graha Utama, said the Indonesia Tourism & Business Event Forum 2022 (ITBEF) was held with the aim of expanding the knowledge of the participants, adding to the network, and creating business opportunities in tourism and MICE. There will be various activities at this event, including plenary sessions, breakout sessions, exhibitions, and also table tops.

“At the seminar, there will be more than 20 national and international speakers to discuss various interesting topics about the MICE industry and tourism. Meanwhile, the travel mart agenda will be attended by 40 sellers and attended by 200 buyers, as well as at the exhibition activities will be attended by 20 participants,” he said.

Daswar Marpaung, explained that the presence of ITBEF 2022 is expected to ignite the revival of the post-pandemic national MICE industry sector. This activity is also expected to be able to increase the insight and competence of human resources, expand networks, and open business opportunities for MICE players and national tourism.

Meanwhile, Sandiaga Uno, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, said that the MICE sector has grown into an industry that contributes greatly to Indonesia’s foreign exchange earnings. The reason is, MICE actors have travel expenses that are greater than leisure tourists, reaching 4-5 times.

“This is certainly in line with the national tourism strategy which will prioritize quality tourism compared to quantity tourism. One of the most awaited and prestigious MICE activities is the implementation of the G20 presidency in November. This meeting is expected to be a means of introducing Indonesian tourism and superior products to the international world,” Sandiaga Uno stated.

The Tourism Ministry together with professional associations are also actively bidding on international MICE activities to be carried out in Indonesia. Based on the Travel and Tourism Development Index 2021, Indonesia is ranked 32nd, up 12 places from 2019. The MICE sector is also very proud. Based on ICCA 2021 data, Indonesia is in ninth position at the Asia Pacific level, where previously it was in 10th position in 2019, as well as fourth position at ASEAN level based on the number of meetings.

“This achievement is expected to trigger the enthusiasm of MICE stakeholders, regardless of the challenges in terms of regulations and policies, the availability of flights to Indonesia from MICE target countries, to the metaverse trend that requires us to create innovations in carrying out MICE activities in the future,” Minister Sandiaga remarked.

ITBEF 2022 will present two plenary sessions. On the first day, the theme was “Global MICE Trend”. This session was attended by two international speakers, namely Jane Vong Holmes as Chair of ICCA Asia Pacific Chapter, and Supawan Teerarat as Senior Vice President of TCEB (Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau).
