PRESIDENT Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has instructed his staff to add flight slots to anticipate a surge in domestic and foreign tourists during the 2022 Christmas and 2023 New Year holiday seasons.
According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno in a 2022 End of Year Press Conference, Monday (12/26) said searches from tourism activities in Indonesia had already exceeded 2.8 billion and outperformed Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia, additional flight slots needed and earlier the President’s instructions to add flight slots so that there will be more seats available.
Sandiaga said the movement of tourism during the 2022 Christmas holidays and ahead of the 2023 New Year has so far been running smoothly. The government, he said, is still conducting monitoring or supervision in the next week to see developments in tourist visits during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
He projects that the number of movements of domestic tourists will reach 800 million movements by the end of the year or exceed the government’s target of 703 million movements. As for foreign tourists, the government projects that there will be 5.3 million movements from the target of 3.6 million movements.
With the government’s plan to add more flight slots, Sandiaga hopes to help reduce airline ticket prices during the Christmas and New Year holiday seasons.
The government, he said, is studying to add flight slots at Tangerang Soekarno Hatta International Airport, Bali Ngurah Rai International Airport, Surabaya Juanda International Airport, Yogyakarta International Airport, and Kualanamu Deli Serdang International Airport.
“Meanwhile, flights to tourist destinations are Wakatobi, Morotai, and also additional flights to tourist destinations such as Lake Toba and Likupang, North Sulawesi,” said Sandiaga Uno. [traveltext.id/photo special]
