SAUDI ARABIA ISSUES 10 NEW REGULATIONS TO DEVELOP TOURISM SECTOR: MINISTRY

SAUDI ARABIA’S Ministry of Tourism issued 10 new regulations to develop the tourism sector and balance Saudi progress in various sectors. The ten regulations contribute to providing an attractive investment climate by considering business convenience, innovation and sustainability.

This is in addition to improving the quality of services provided and protecting the rights of tourists, it also supports the sector and increases employment opportunities. Reported by the Saudi Gazette on Sunday (12/25), the new regulations related to Saudi tourism have taken into account the needs after reviewing the opinions and observations of various stakeholders.

The ten regulations cover many aspects. These include tourism hospitality facilities, travel and tourism services, tour guides, hotel tourism facility management, tourism consulting, private tourist hospitality facilities, trial activities, inspection of tourism activities, as well as committees to consider violations of tourism laws, and tourist destinations.

Saudi Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Khateeb clarified that the new regulations come as a completion of the steps the ministry is working on to achieve the goals of the general strategy of national tourism development. This regulation will enable the ministry to strengthen cooperation with the private sector, and offer job opportunities for national competence in the tourism sector.

“Regulations issued based on this law include provisions regulating tourism of various types,” he said.

He added that other things included in the regulation are provisions to regulate control and inspection to guarantee service quality. He gave an example of regulations issued based on tourism laws compiled in accordance with international best practices selected based on the index of the top 10 countries in the Travel & Tourism Competitiveness issued by the World Economic Forum (WEF).

This regulation is in line with the direction of wise leaders to build a globally competitive tourism sector. In addition, the ministry has given 90 days to dealers in the tourism sector to adapt their conditions to the new conditions and standards.

The Saudi Ministry of Tourism also asked business actors in the tourism sector to pay attention to the contents of the new regulations in carrying out tourism activities in order to protect the rights of tourists, the quality of services offered, and avoid legal entanglements, penalties and fines.
