GLOBAL ECONOMIC RECESSION DOES NOT STOP TRAVELERS FROM TRAVELING

ONLINE Travel Agent (OTA), Pegipegi projects that the travel and accommodation business in the next one to two years will grow significantly.

“Referring to Google Indonesia’s research results, domestic air travel has recovered, with the number of passengers reaching 73 percent of the total passengers in 2019,” said Pegipegi’s Senior Corporate Communications Manager, Busyra Oryza, Monday (01/02) 2023. Based on research, data found that one in three Indonesians also intends to travel internationally in 2023.

His belief is also based on the results of the 2022 Pegipegi Travel Report which shows that the tourism industry and the creative economy have proven to be quick to adapt and have succeeded in finding a number of solutions to overcome and overcome the impact of the various challenges they are facing.

According to him, the threat of a recession that is looming this year will not dampen people’s interest in traveling. Therefore, we are optimistic that the projected tourism industry will continue to grow as the situation slowly recovers.

During 2022, Pegipegi recorded a significant increase in all lines of accommodation and transportation bookings. Compared to the 2021 period, accommodation bookings have increased by 10%, flights by 50%; and trains by 90%. In addition, since its launch in 2019, orders for bus and travel products at Pegipegi have also increased by more than 200% compared to last year.

Based on the results of a survey in the Pegipegi Travel Report 2022 of more than 450 Pegipegi customer respondents spread across various regions of Indonesia, 80% of respondents still plan to travel even though they are under the shadow of the risk of an economic recession and around 19% have yet to decide.

In fact, around 62% of respondents already have more than three travel plans for the next year. Those planning to travel next year, around 62% want to travel to domestic destinations. Followed by another 33% who plan to combine domestic and international destinations for their traveling agenda.

“Apart from the context of recession risk, we see an increase in interest in traveling by 24% when compared to data in 2020. In the Pegipegi Travel Report 2020, around 56% of respondents plan to travel in 2021 and 44% have not yet decided,” he concluded. [antaranews/photo special]
