IN FACT, McLaren says that the successor to the 720S is already sold out by 2024. For McLaren supercar fans, you have to say goodbye to the McLaren 720S. While we already had the notion that production of one of our favorite super sports cars would cease after five years in production, we were also aware that the 720S was officially no more.

Of course, it’s said that the 720S joins the list of cars being discontinued in 2023, but there’s good news and bad news regarding its yet-to-be-named successor. The good news is that McLaren has confirmed that they are working on the next iteration.

Automotive News spoke with McLaren America President Nicolas Brown in Las Vegas, who provided a little more insight into what the next 720S could potentially be while remaining cautious on specifics.

“(Customers) anticipate that it will be a refinement of the 720. They understand that this is not a next-generation, all-new, new vehicle. They have started putting deposits at dealers, although we haven’t said anything yet,” Brown told Automotive News.

However, the bad news for potential buyers is that the unnamed replacement is reportedly sold out “long into 2024. Also, beyond this bit of info, McLaren has yet to release details about the 720S successor that’s in the works.

The British firm recently confirmed a partnership with Lockheed Martin on a “futuristic” supercar design, but it’s unclear whether the collaboration has anything to do with the new 720S. If not, then the automaker will continue to roll out its new hybrid Artura to dealers.

Meanwhile, rumors are swirling about electric sedans and even SUVs. You see, other supercar manufacturers have entered the realm of versatile cars, such as SUVs. Call it Ferrari and Porsche, and Lamborghini.

“We have contacted McLaren to see if there may be any more info regarding this story. Look forward to further news,” he concluded. [sources/photo special]
