FOREIGN TOURIST VISITS TO INDONESIA IN DECEMBER 2022 ROSE 447.08%

THE INDONESIA’S Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy said the number of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia in December 2022 reached 895.12 thousand visits, up 447.08% compared to the condition in December 2021.

According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, during the Weekly Press Briefing at the Sapta Pesona Building, Jakarta, Monday (02/06), 2023 said that when compared to the previous month, the number of foreign tourist visits in December 2022 also increased, namely by 36.19%.

“The number of foreign tourist visits, which was initially projected at 5.2 million visits, finally almost reached 5.5 million visits. Up 251.28% compared to the number of foreign tourist visits in 2021,” he said.

Sandiaga explained that in December 2022 foreign tourist arrivals by nationality came from Singapore (20.15%), Malaysia (17.98%), Australia (11.42%), Timor Leste (8.4%), and India (5.61%). Meanwhile, the Room Occupancy Rate (RHR) of star classification hotels in Indonesia in December 2022 reached 56.90%, an increase of 5.33 points compared to the RHR in December 2021.

“Of course, this was followed by the length of stay of guests, where the average length of stay of star classification hotel guests during December 2022 was recorded at 1.62 days, up 0.01 points compared to December 2021 conditions and down 0.08 points compared to the previous month,” he stated.

In increasing foreign tourist visits to Indonesia, the Ministry of Tourism continues to encourage tourism and creative economy players to create more innovative tour packages and add direct flights. He will also introduce 5 Super Priority Destinations to foreign tourists, by conducting contemporary promotions through product placement.

“Indonesian products that are in demand such as coffee, Indonesian culinary, there is also fashion that will be displayed in New York, this later we will promote super priority destinations. Also, through digital promotion through the markom team which will encourage a more targeted and segmented approach, so that awareness of these 5 DSPs will increase in the markets we are aiming for,” Sandiaga remarked.

On this occasion, he also responded to Hong Kong reopening its territory to foreign tourists. The Hong Kong Tourism Board is now promoting the Hello Hong Kong campaign and offering 500,000 free plane tickets.

According to him, this does not make it a challenge, but makes it an opportunity by offering direct flight packages from Hong Kong to Indonesian destinations, because Hong Kong and Indonesian destinations have very different attractions.

“Secondly, we want as much as possible to give an emphasis that there is a Proud to Travel Indonesia program, there is a possibility if we cannot boost the movement of 1.4 billion tourists, there is a net out of our tourists, more Indonesian tourists travel abroad than foreign tourists who come to Indonesia. This is what we must respond to with collaborative, innovative steps so that we can still attract foreign tourists but can encourage foreign tourists to be proud to travel in Indonesia,” he concluded.
