FORBES magazine released the latest list of the world’s 10 richest people as of March 1, 2023. This list of people with the most wealth is the boss of the world’s major companies.
Here is the list of the 10 richest people in the world 2023:
1. Bernard Arnault
The first richest person position is occupied by LVMH CEO and Chairman Bernard Arnault. Bernard Arnault has a total wealth of US$210.8 billion. LVMH that he leads oversees 70 well-known fashion and cosmetics brands. These include Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, as well as Moet & Chandon and Sephora.
2. Elon Musk
Elon Musk takes second place with a total wealth of US$196.5 billion. He is the boss of electric car company Tesla, rocket company SpaceX, and social media platform Twitter. Musk was listed as the richest person in the world before until December 2022.
3. Jeff Bezos
The third place is filled by Amazon owner Jeff Bezos. Bezos has a net worth of US$117.4 billion. The 59-year-old man stepped down as Amazon CEO in July 2021.
4. Larry Ellison
Larry Ellison occupies the fourth position with a total wealth of US$112.3 billion. He is the founder of Oracle software. Ellison invested in Tesla and served on the car company’s board of directors from 2018 to August 2022.
5. Warren Buffet
With a net worth of US$106.4 billion, Warren Buffet is the fifth richest person in the world. Buffet is one of the most successful investors of all time. He runs the investment conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway, and owns dozens of companies from Geico insurance to the Dairy Queen restaurant chain.
6. Bill Gates
Microsoft founder Bill Gates has a net worth of US$104.9 billion. With this wealth, he is the sixth richest person. Gates has been on the Forbes list since 1987. He has long held the record for the richest person in the world. From 1995 to 2017, his position only shifted in 2008, 2010 and 2013.
7. Carlos Slim Helu
Carlos Slim Helu is the owner of Latin American telecommunications company America Movil. He has a net worth of US489.9 billion. Slim overtook Bill Gates and Warren Buffet as the first richest person from 2010 to 2013.
8. Mukesh Ambani
Mukesh Ambani is an entrepreneur in the fields of petrochemicals, oil, gas, retail and telecommunications. This Indian businessman has a wealth of US$83.3 billion. Ambani also holds the title of the richest person in India for 14 years until 2022. Having been overtaken by Gautam Adani in February 2022, Ambani returned to become India’s richest person in February 2023.
9. Steve Ballmer
With US$80.9 billion, Steve Ballmer occupies the 9th position in the world’s richest people. Ballmer is a classmate of Bill Gates and was CEO of Microsoft from 2000 to 2014.
10. Francoise Bettencourt Meyers
Francoise Bettencourt Meyers is the only woman in the top 10 richest people in the world. Her total wealth is US$80.7 billion. Bettencourt Meyers is the granddaughter of the founder of cosmetics giant L’Oreal. She joined the board of directors in 1997 and inherited the family fortune in 2017. [sources/photo special]
