STATE airport operator Angkasa Pura II (AP II) has said that it has received 1,016 requests from airlines for operating additional flights for this year’s Eid  holliday season.

“As of Monday (April 10), the number of requests for adding extra flights for this year’s Eid transportation needs is approximately 1,016,” AP II president director Muhammad Awaluddin informed during a hearing with the House of Representatives here on Monday (04/10).

As per AP II’s records, an additional 854 domestic flights and 58 international flights are already being operated this year, Awaluddin said.

“In addition to the public traveling to their hometowns to celebrate Eid with their families, there are also communities who take advantage of the Eid momentum for vacation, and this is marked by around the 58 international extra flights,” he added.

According to AP II, apart from Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang, 104 extra flights have been recorded at airports in Bandung, Pekanbaru, and Palembang.

Awaluddin said the total number of extra flights will remain highly dynamic in the days before the Eid exodus flow peak. There has been tremendous public demand for air transportation this year.

“We emphasize that the 1,016 extra flights will be able to handle Eid transportation activities this year,” Awaluddin said.

Moreover, the number of passengers, domestic and international, during this year’s Eid holiday season is predicted to increase to 4,479,688. In comparison, in the 2022 Eid season, the number of passengers, both domestic and international, amounted to 3,097,628 million. [antaranews/photo special]
